Telecom completes successful Teams Phone migration project
Published on: August 13, 2024
Through a comprehensive effort that started in January 2023, ITS’ Telecom team has successfully migrated more than 11,000 phone numbers from the University’s former VoIP solution, GoCo’s Communicator 7, to Microsoft Teams Phone. This milestone marks the completion of U of T’s Teams Phone migration project.
“We extend our gratitude to everyone involved in the migration project for their dedication and hard work, which has been crucial in achieving this milestone,” says Patrick Hopewell, Director, Enterprise Infrastructure Solutions. “The move to Teams Phone has simplified the user experience for many, reduced support calls and resulted in savings for the University.”
Teams Phone integrates individual VoIP lines into Teams and enables a dial pad feature, along with other popular VoIP features such as call forwarding, voicemail and more.
More than 380 departments across the University have been fully or partially migrated to Teams Phone. Certain specialized VoIP services, such as phone lines used in conference rooms and fax machines, will remain on GoCo until a suitable replacement is in place. The process to secure a new contract to manage these phone lines is underway, and a solution is expected to be in place by the end of 2024.
